Colored or Mono?

It happens once or twice a week to have early shift, which means that I get up around 6am. This morning it was foggy so I immediately packed my camera to take it with me on the way to the office.

I really can’t decide between the two photos bellow. I like both of them and I also feel that they express different things. I would appreciate to hear your opinion as well.

Thanks in advance! šŸ™‚

  1. You know my usual preference Klaudia but I think I’m going to shock you by saying the amber lights and that green cross just give the color photo the edge šŸ˜€

  2. I like the coloured one more, because of the green cross and the street lights. On the other side is the “green” cross in the b/w photo an eyecatcher. So, as you said have both photos its own message. Have a happy day! šŸ˜€

  3. I’m a sucker for B&W, but I tend to agree with the ones picking the color shot here. It may just be my computer, but the street level details of the black and white shot kind of get lost. But the color one really pops.

    1. You’re right, for the b&w there not so many details visible, also because I have darkened it a little while making it b&w
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate the feedback! šŸ˜€

  4. Colorrrrd! šŸ™‚
I absolutely love b&w-shots, but in my opinion they have to be strong and simple. With focus on contrasts, dark and light things and so on, few details.
In the b&w-conversion of the street, there are just a few levels of contrast, some light spots and a very dark (framing) foreground. There’s an interesting atmosphere, but not much to discover.

The colored version got some very harmonic colors, that fit together. Except the green cross, but that makes curious. And because I can see more, I get aware of the perspective and it pulls me into the picture.

Uhm, yeah… just my humble opinion ^.^

    1. Thank you very much for the feedback šŸ˜€ I have posted the colored version on my facebook and flickr account. I just wasn’t decided which one is more appealing. It’s clear now that the colored version and you’re right, b&w shots are great when there’s a much more powerful contrast, only that here I wanted to somehow create a more dark atmosphere šŸ™‚
